7 Reasons Organic Toners Are Great for Your Skin

Toners are essential staples of any solid skin care routine.

They help to remove excess debris left on the skin after cleansing, balance oil production, and gently hydrate the skin.

However, all toners are not created equal.

Organic Toner

Some toners contain harsh ingredients which can damage the skin. On the other hand, others contain gentle natural ingredients that nourish the skin from the inside out.

Some of the best toners on the market are those made with 100% natural and organic ingredients.

But, why are organic toners better for your skin?

Let’s review the top reasons why everyone should switch to an organic toner.

1. No Harmful Chemicals

First things first, a true organic toner should not contain harsh chemicals. Cheap fillers, and synthetic preservatives like denatured alcohols, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, or formaldehydes can cause serious damage to your skin.

Additionally, the ingredients in the toner should be organically produced so that they are also free from pesticide and GMOs.

These chemicals have been linked to all sorts of skin and health conditions ranging from irritation to cancer.

By using a truly organic toner, you are protecting your skin from a host of potentially toxic ingredients.

2. Won’t Dry Out Your Skin

Once upon a time, toners were designed specifically for people with oily skin.

Also known as astringents, these toners of the past used to contain strong alcohols which removed almost all of the oil from the surface of the skin.

While these alcohols were great at removing oil, they were also incredibly harsh on the skin.

They often caused excessive dryness and could even eat away at the surface of the skin causing permanent damage.

Luckily, well-crafted organic toners today do not use harmful alcohols in their formulations. Instead, they use ingredients which can gently balance oil production and actually add moisture to the skin.

Some examples of these gentle organic ingredients include rose water, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, and fatty alcohols derived from vegetables.

Benefits of Using Organic Toner

3. Balances pH and Oil Production

Did you know that excessively dry skin can actually be the cause of oily skin?

When we remove all of the natural oils from the skin, it can trigger a reaction where the skin overcompensates by producing a ton of sebum.

Conventional alcohol-based toners can wreak havoc on your skin’s natural pH balance by overly drying the skin.

On the other hand, using an organic toner made from gentle ingredients can help to replenish lost moisture and realign your skin’s pH.

This in turn helps to keep your skin’s oil production in a normal range.

4. Fights Acne

You don’t need to use harsh astringents to fight acne.

An organic toner can fight acne-causing bacteria with all-natural ingredients like willow bark, neem oil, burdock root, apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, and essential oils like tea tree oil.

These ingredients not only kill bacteria, they also gently remove excess oil which can clog pores and cause future breakouts.

Some acne skin types can also benefit from the anti-inflammatory properties of the above-mentioned ingredients to help reduce redness.

5. Calms Redness

If you have sensitive skin, then look no further than an organic toner to reduce redness and soothe irritation.

Conventional toners often contain cheap fillers and synthetic preservatives which can irritate the skin and exacerbate skin conditions such as rosacea and eczema.

A solid organic toner, on the other hand, calms skin with natural ingredients like aloe vera juice, cucumber juice, rose hydrosol, and chamomile.

These ingredients are all potent anti-inflammatory agents which also add moisture to the skin.

6. Unclogs Pores

Toners work to remove any dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells left over after cleansing.

A good organic toner will be packed with natural ingredients to unclog pores that are also nourishing for the skin.

Organic Ingredients not only clear out unwanted gunk from pores, but they also help to control oil production to keep your pores clear.

7. Prevents & Treats Wrinkles

One of the top causes of fine lines and wrinkles is dehydrated skin.

The causes of dry skin range from poor nutrition to excess sun exposure.

Additionally, as we age, our skin loses its ability to retain moisture and sagging skin, wrinkles, and lines are the result.

Organic toners can help to replenish vital moisture with natural humectants (ingredients that retain moisture and attract moisture from the air into the skin) like aloe vera, honey, hyaluronic acid, and vegetable glycerin.

Non-organic toners often use synthetic humectants like propylene glycol, silicones, and petroleum-based compounds which can be contaminated with carcinogenic toxins.

These ingredients should be avoided because they can cause irritation, rashes, and, ironically, dry skin.
