2017 is a breakthrough year in beauty products for me. I’ve always like makeup, but I didn’t really get into it until last year when I visited my cousin and she pulled out a trunk full of makeup products that I had never even heard of. Primer??? What is that?! Yes, I had no idea what primer was and since I didn’t wear foundation (I sucked at applying it) I had never heard of it. I first tried the Maybelline Baby Skin primer (which I still love) and I was hooked. I went on to try many more brands which led me to tinted primer which eventually led me to foundation and contour and the rest is history.
It was also a breakthrough year for me in terms of brows. I have some serious eyebrow envy and some of that is probably due to the fact that my eyebrows are thin, light and very sparse. Eyebrow products changed all of that for me! I could finally have the brows I wanted. I was mostly a drugstore makeup kind of girl, and while I still love it (they have some amazing makeup!) I did invest in a few quality higher name brand beauty products. Most of my products are a good mix of drugstore and high end.
I have a lot of favorites, but here are the top 10 beauty products that I loved the most in 2018.
10 Best Beauty Products of 2018!
Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette ($45):
This was my very first beauty splurge and it was worth every penny! I love that they are all matte shadows and the colors range from every day to dramatic. You can create simple day looks and sophisticated night-out looks with this palette. Out of all my eyeshadow palettes, this is the one I find myself using the most.
Tarte Park Avenue Princess Contour Palette: Volume II ($34):
I’ve always loved blush and I wanted a good blush. The fact that this palette had a contour and highlight shade included was just icing on the cake. This palette was my first attempt at contouring and highlighting and although I have more contour and highlight palettes I still find myself using this one. The blush is my favorite one and I use it every single day. The picture on the website doesn’t do it justice and it’s really more of a mauve pink. The contour shade is great for my fair skin and works great as a bronzer too. The highlight is a beautiful shimmery pale gold color that looks great with every look. I don’t see this on the Tarte website anymore but you can still get it at Ulta.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo ($23):
ABH is the it brand when it comes to eyebrows. I have the brow wiz, brow pomade and clear brow gel from them but the brow powder duo is my favorite brow product of theirs (so far, I have my eye on their newest brow pencil). I love that this is a true taupe which is a hard color to find. You can use it to shape or fill your brows and I just love it.
It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil ($24):
Universal products scare me, but the fact that this shade was in Taupe (the color I’m always looking for in brow products) made me feel a bit easier. I wasn’t gonna get this. I was perfectly happy using my Brow Wiz and Brow Powder duo from ABH… but the tip is what eventually wore me down. I love the thicker tip of this eyebrow pencil, which is great for someone like me with really light and sparse brows. My eyebrow routine has been cut down to one minute per eyebrow which is fantastic! I can use this alone or with the Brow Powder Duo. Out of all the brow products I’ve used (and I’ve used a lot), I think this makes my brows look the most natural. It works with my brow hairs instead of covering them up like other brow products. Looooooove this brow pencil!
Maybelline Face Studio Master Prime in Blur + Redness Control ($9):
The secret to a great face base is a good primer and I’ve tried a lot. This is my favorite one for me and I’m on my third tube. It smooths my pores, tones down my redness and makes my powder and foundation go on great. I’ve tried high end primers (Smashbox and Benefit) and I liked this one better. I especially liked the price tag much better.
Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment ($24):
I love lip balms! I can’t be without them and although I am fully aware that this is a total splurge item, it was worth it. I loved the smell, texture, finish, and color this left on my lips and ended up using it alone most of the time. This was definitely a favorite of mine in 2017.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Zurich ($6):
Matte lips were all the rage last year. Unfortunately, I don’t like that drying feel that most of them tend to leave on my lips (I’m still a sucker for glossy lips). This matte lip cream is perfect for me. It has a moussy and creamy finish, but it dries to a matte that doesn’t feel drying or like I have cement on my lips. I’m a bit obsessed with them and have them in 8 different shades. My favorite one is Zurich. A must have for all fans of matte lips.
Nyx Liquid Liner ($7):
Best eyeliner I’ve used! It’s soooo black and the brush tip is so much easier for me to use than felt tip eyeliners. I can make my line as thin or as thick and dramatic as I want. And hello wing eyeliner! So easy to do with this pen.
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara ($9):
Mascaras hate me. I have think and short lashes and I feel like 99% of mascara are too heavy for my eyelashes and after 5 seconds of looking perfect…. they start to drop. This is one of the very few that keeps my eyelashes curled so for that it gets huge thumbs up from me!
Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin ($13):
Out of all the foundations I tried last year (there were many), this was my favorite. The color match was awesome (sand beige) and wasn’t too pink or too yellow, the coverage was great and it helped control any shinyness caused by my oily skin. Especially on my nose. Worked better than the few high end foundations I tried. Highly recommend it for those of you with oily skin!
There you have it, an even mix of high end and drugstore products. Have you tried any of these products before? Did any of them make your favorites list? Let me know some of your favorite beauty products of 2018!
